I made it to Left Orbits league finals at Offworld. I had anticipated this for a while. After bad performances a few weeks ago I needed a better showing this one. I had a win pretty high on my list but I mainly had the goal of top 3. Of course, since I didn't qualify good enough, I did not get to pick any of the games, so anything I would get may hurt me in the end. All I wanted was a much better showing than before. The semifinals happened. The games in this session were King Kong, NBA Fastbreak, and Pokemon. -King Kong: That game is a little rough, somewhat. I may need to play it a little more to make sure I can master it. I got a few things down including the gong shot, but I still need to make combos. That Biplane ramp, though. I did manage to get 100M, and I ended up in a modest 2nd. -NBA Fastbreak: Ugh, that game is a rough one. The last time I played this, I came in dead last. And I was literally in last going into the 3rd ball. I got lucky enough to score a few points, just enough to avoid a last. -Pokemon: This was the game I had to win to at least tie for a spot. Boy did I ever dominate on this one. I got to Pikachu vs. Charizard on ball 1 and to be honest I never looked back. I ran up 400M on ball 1. No one even came close. Easy win. Guess what? A 3 way tie! BUT... only two can go into the final 4. The tiebreaker was on Back to the Future. That was a wild card indeed. The good part: I got 2.3M as the first player. No one even got a million. I ended up advancing to the final 4 and I'm happy. Onward to the final 4. This was a big one. The games in this set were: Pulp Fiction, Robocop, and Terminator 2. I didn't expect to win, but this was going to be very interesting. -Pulp Fiction: I'm not usually a fan of this game, but Offworld's Pulp Fiction feels a bit playable compared to Barcade's. I had the lead going into ball 3, but I hit my stride after getting the Pawn Shop Multiball. I had over a million, and I took the W. -Robocop: This game was a bit of up and down. I did have the lead but I missed. I could not hit the ramp for anything on there. I ended up in second. I perfected the corner Skill Shots but I needed more than that to win. I came just short, but I'll take second. -Terminator 2: This game put me in a loop. I started out strong, got Multiball, got the 3X jackpot, and now I was going for super jackpots. Attempt 1: miss. Attempt 2: miss. Attempt 3: miss. What was going on? So everyone else played... most of them got a Super Jackpot... why?! Why was I the one missing? Going into ball 3, I had already missed the Super Jackpot in Multiball a total of SIX times! I was in 3rd, and I was looking for more. So I was given a free Multiball. Okay. I get 2X Jackpot. So I'm going for the Super Jackpot. I FINALLY hit one. It was a HUGE relief. After I got that Super Jackpot, everyone wasn't happy. No one got close to 170M. I take a first. I did it. I won the league. What a surprise. No Baywatch? I guess not. Pokemon and Back to the Future helped me out big time. That was a big win at Offworld. It's my first league win outside of Barcade. I was quite pleased. Well, the next tournament is in Grosse Pointe on Friday (Sep. 18). I have my fair share of ups and downs when it comes to Grosse Pointe. The games are different each time, so I don't anticipate much. I will, however, try for at least a top 3 finish. Winning at Grosse Pointe will probably solidify my chances to go see Spider Man next week (finally). |
